Revealing, early plans of Beijing, formerly Peking, depicting the then contemporary city along with the ancient, original city. Legends at lower right and left list over 50 locations that are keyed to both plans. These locate and name various palaces, temples and gates. A distance scale beneath the top plan converts “Chinese furlongs” to “Geometrical Paces. The work appeared in Campbell's 1744 posthumous publication of John Harris' Collection of Voyages and Travels.
